A dark day in Abbeville County history was revisited Thursday, with hearings held at the Abbeville County Courthouse for Rita and Steven Bixby.

Both Steven and Rita have been charged in connection with the standoff on Dec. 8 in Abbeville which left two law enforcement officers dead – Constable Donnie Ouzts and Abbeville County Sheriff's Office Deputy Danny Wilson. Arthur Bixby, Rita's husband and Steven's father, has also been charged.

Steven's hearing was held in the morning, and Rita's in the afternoon. While Steven's hearing took only a few minutes, Rita's took the better part of two hours.

Steven's hearing was to deal with two motions which had been filed by his attorneys – one motion was asking why Abbeville County Sheriff Charles Goodwin and Anderson County Sheriff David Crenshaw should not be held in contempt of court.
