Man arrested following 'standoff'

A"standoff" situation captivated the Abbeville community Wednesday night, according to an Abbeville Police Department incident report.

William Fredrick Abercrombie, 19, (DOB 3/16/2000) of Sawmill Acres Trailer Park, Abbeville, faces charges of criminal domestic violence of high and aggravated nature, two counts of kidnapping, resisting arrest, possession of firearm in the commission of a violent crime, and two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child, according to the Police.

He is charged in connection with an incident at Sawmill Acres Trailer Park on the late afternoon and early evening on the western outskirts of Abbeville.

It all started when Police responded about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday evening to the Sawmill Road location, speaking with a woman who said that she had been threatened with a firearm and the assailant was inside the residence with two young children.

Personnel from City of Abbeville Police, Abbeville County Sheriff's Office, Greenwood County Sheriff's Office, and Anderson County Sheriff's Office all eventually responded.

The suspect initially barricaded himself inside the residence, according to the Abbeville Police incident report.

The children were released from the home approximately 6:15 p.m., and then Abercrombie left the house about an hour later, and was arrested.

The children, both minors, were transported to the hospital for evaluation, and then released to the care of their parent, according to the Police.

Abercrombie was denied bond Thursday, according to published reports.
