Opera House interior gets paint job

The lobby of the Abbeville Opera House is getting a make-over, thanks to a new coat of paint.

You could see Ray Bowie, Jeremy Creswell and Austin McCurry of #1 Painting hard at work in the lobby of the old building, which is more than 100 years old.

"The painting in the Opera House is being done as part of the larger Opera House Renovation taking place this year," said Community Development Directory Mike Clary on Wednesday.

"This renovation includes sound, lighting, flooring, roofing, painting, HVAC, new seats, concessions renovations, and more.

The colors being used are variants of gray and white for the trim. We hope this will help to brighten up the Opera House while also highlighting the historic woodwork and trim in the building."

The City hopes to have the painting finished this week, and the other projects by early next year, Clary said.
