City cancels Spring Festival

One of Abbeville’s  major gatherings has fallen victim to the coronavirus this year.

“We will be cancelling the Spring Festival,” said City Manager Blake Stone Tuesday.

The cause of the cancellation is, of course, the threat of COVID 19. City officials made the decision earlier this week, according to Stone.

“We don’t have that many options here,” he said. “Definitely a tough one.”

The Abbeville Spring Festival has been presented by the City every year in early May, and typically draws thousands. However, regulations on the size of gatherings in South Carolina have been put in place to try to curb the outbreak.

In another City matter, the City of Abbeville does have a positive COVID 19 case, said Stone.

A City employee has tested positive for the virus, Stone said.

The employee is  being quarantined, said the City Manager, declining to provide further details in order to protect the employee’s identity.

The City of Abbeville is following standard procedures regarding the outbreak, and is encouraging citizens to follow guidelines regarding to social distancing and other measures to curb the outbreak, Stone continued.
