Dixie alters graduation for weather concerns

Dixie High School is making a change to its graduation schedule on Thursday, May 28, said incoming Dixie principal Paul Prescott this week.

"Due to the potential for inclement weather, we will have two ceremonies in our gym on Thursday," said Prescott Tuesday. The first will be at 5:30 p.m., with the second at 7:30 p.m., and "the ceremonies will be divided evenly by last name," he said.

The program had originally been slated to be held at the Dixie football stadium.

Dixie's graduation program will be one of three Abbeville County high school graduations this week.

Abbeville High School's program will be on May 29 at 7 p.m. and Calhoun Falls Charter School will have its program on the same night at 7:30 p.m. Both the AHS and the Calhoun Falls Charter programs were at press time slated to take place at the school stadiums.

All three graduation programs are being held in person, but the schools have indicated that the graduations will follow social distancing guidelines to help curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
